Gold foil

In Egypt, the remains of a man and a woman buried with slabs of gold foil instead of their tongues were discovered.

The bodies buried in limestone coffins were found in separate tombs, dating back 2,500 years, to the 26th Dynasty.

The gold plates are placed on the tongues of the dead during the funeral to make sure the soul can speak to Osiris, the ruler of the underworld once in the other world.

Pharaohs believe that the golden tongue may allow the dead to persuade Osiris to show mercy to their souls.
